Buddhist Women – A Hero in Dark Times

Continuing the series on Buddhist women, this is the story of teacher who, despite her family members being murdered, being forced into exile and dealing with debilitating health condition, becomes a hero. She was a major teacher and the pivotal figure in the restoration of a major Tibetan monastery and its lineage.

Tibetan Buddhism has not only been carried on by monks and nuns but also yogis, yoginis and many other leaders who fall outside the “lay monastic” divide. Recalling the history of Buddhist women requires including the surprisingly diverse roles that women have played in Tibetan Buddhist history.
